ABSTRACT

OBJECTIVE To observe the infection after ophthalmic operation in 276 patients with AIDS.METHODS This trial involved 276 patients(276 eyes) with AIDS.They were divided into 2 groups according to surgical sites:112 patients(112 eyes) were in the first group who were undergone eyelid or conjunctival operation and 164 patients(164 eyes) were in the second group who were undergone cataract or glaucoma operation. There were 325 patients(325 eyes) who did not suffered with AIDS in the control group: 130 patients(130 eyes) were in the third group who were undergone eyelid or conjunctival operation and 195 patients(195 eyes) were in the fourth group who were undergone cataract or glaucoma operation. The infections were observed after operation.RESULTS There were 30 cases(26.79%),8 cases(4.88%),12 cases(9.23%) and 8 cases(4.10%) suffered with infection after operation in four groups respectively. There were 38 infected cases(13.77%) in patients with AIDS and more than that in patients who did not suffered with AIDS(20 cases and 6.15% ?2=9.07,P

ABSTRACT

Objective To evaluate the effectson experimental posterior vitreous detachment(PVD) induced by intravitrous injection of hyaluronidase and perfIuoroethane(C3F8),and whether it is safe or not. Methods Twelve rabbits(24 eyes) were divided into 3 experimental groups, the contralateral eyes in same animals served as the controls. The eyes in group A(4 eyes) and B(4 eyes) were injected with 10IU of hyaluronldase(0.2ml) and 0.2ml perfluoropropane(C3F8) respectively. The eyes in group C(4 eyes) were received vitreous injections of 10IU(0.1ml) of hyaluronldase and 0.1ml perfluoropropane(C3F8) together. All control eyes were injected with balanced salt solution(0.2ml).The ocular and fundus signs were examined for 2 following weeks and then killed for histological examination. Results Four eyes in group C showed complete separation of the vitreous cortex from the retina(PVD) by B-scan and scanning electron microscopy, and no PVD was detected in group A、B and all control eyes.No evidence of retinal toxicity was revealed by light or transmisson electron microscopy in all eyes. Conclusion Vitreous injection of hyaluronidase combined with perfluoropropane(C3F8),as a safety method, can induce posterior vitreous detachment after 2 weeks.

ABSTRACT

Objective To study the culture method of conjunctival epithelium in vitro. Methods The rabbit conjunctival epithelium was cultured by tissue inoculation and was explanted in culture dish or on human amnionic membrane for fwo weeks. The cell morphology and growth features were observed. Results The rabbit conjunctival epithelium explanted in culture dish connected each other into membrane at eighth days around, which were monolayer cells was observed. The rabbit conjunctival epithelium explanted on human amnionic membrane connected each other into membrane at sixth day,and multi-layer cells were observed. All cultured cells showed positive in CK13 staining by indirect immunofluorescence staining. Conclusions Tissue inoculation is a good approach of conjunctival epithelium culture, and multi-layer cells can be gained if the tissue be exlpanted on human amnionic membrane.

ABSTRACT

Objective To study the method of the cultured human conjunctival epithelium combined with amniotic membrane transplantation for treatment of conjunctival defect. Methods 20 eyes of 10 rabbits were divided into study group (10 right eyes ) and contoal group (10 left eyes ). The conjunctival epithelium got from conjunctiva of fornix of study group about 1mm?1mm was explanted on human amniotic membrane and was cultured in vitro by tissue inoculation 2 weeks before operation. The bulbar conjunctivals of 20 eyes were excised. The conjunctival defect was covered by the graft in the study group and uncovered in the control group. The growth features of the grafts were observed. Results The conjunctival epithelium explanted on human amniotic membrane connected each other into membrane in 6 days, and multi-layer cells were observed. In the study group, all grafts were inosculated with and were similar to normal conjunctival in 2 weeks. There was not immune rejection occurred. In the control group, the conjunctival defect was recovered by scar. Conclusion It is effective of the cultured conjunctival epithelium combined with amniotic membrane transplantation for treatment of conjunctival defect.

ABSTRACT

Objective To explore the major types and characteristics of the patients with cilioretinal artery occlusion. Methods Ten patients(10 eyes)with cilioretinal artery occlusion were gathered.Fundus examination and fluorescein angiography were used for the analysis of the clinical manifestations in ten patients. Results Of the ten patients, the isolated occlusion of a cilioretinal artery(which we defined as typeⅠ)was revealed in four patients, the central retinal vein association with cilioretinal artery occlusion(type Ⅱ)was revealed in four patients, central retinal artery association with cilioretinal artery occlusion(type Ⅲ)was revealed in two patients. The images of fundus fluorescein angiography showed fluorescein filled of cilioretinal artery slow, and completely filled of cilioretinal artery late. The visual prognosis is satisfied in typeⅠ,but worse in type Ⅱ and the worst in type Ⅲ. Conclusions The visual prognosis of cilioretinal artery occlusion is different due to the various clinical manifestations revealed. Fundus fluorescein angiography could be used to identify the type and evaluate the visual prognosis of cilioretinal artery occlusion.
